India’s 1st kayaking-canoeing high-performance centre to be established in Tehri

The Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Limited (THDC) is preparing to construct what is being claimed as India’s first Kayaking Canoeing High-Performance Centre in Koteshwar, Tehri.

The objective of this project is to offer elite athletes from all over the country access to state-of-the-art facilities, which will include hostels, equipment, and a gym, all without any charge. Officials have stated that an agreement is being planned, which will be signed between THDC, the Indian Kayaking Canoeing Association (IKCA), and the Uttarakhand government to formally establish this collaboration.

Jitendra Kumar Sonkar, the director of the sports department, commented, “Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IKCA, THDC, and the state, the sports department will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the centre. At present, THDC is actively engaged in the construction of the centre, with a focus on providing excellent facilities to athletes.”
